Tired of stir-fried beef or beef curry? Try this ‘saucy’ beef dish. It’s easy to make and has a lot of flavour to get your gastronomic juices flowing!
Ingredients
500 gm local or Australian beef (sliced thinly)
Some red food colouring (optional)
2 large red onions (sliced)
3 cloves of garlic (crushed)
1 cm ginger (sliced)
3 tablespoons of chilli and tomato sauce
3 tablespoons of oyster sauce
Some water (ifnecessary)
Salt to taste
Cooking il
Optional aromatics
3 kaffir lime leaves (torn)
2 stalks of lemongrass (bruised)
4 bird’s eye chillies (bruised)
Method:
1. If required, boil beef in a pot of water until tender. Add red food colouring if you like.
2. Heat cooking oil in a wok and fry the aromatic ingredients: onions, garlic and ginger.
3. Add sauces and beef.
4. Simmer until the sauce thickens and add salt to taste.
5. Serve with rice.
Note: The optional aromatics like kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass and bird’s eye chilli will help impart a more ‘tom yam-like’ flavour to your dish.
